Introduction and Vision

Since Sony launched the world's first music Compact Disc to the market in 1982, Sony has been a leading company in optical disc technologies.

Sony Disc & Digital Solutions serves as the corporate umbrella for Sony's global optical disc and digital solutions business. This provides global strategy, planning direction, advanced engineering and research and serves as an interface between the regional entities and Sony Corp.

In accordance with those directions, Sony DADC operates in each region as a content supply chain service provider. By utilizing a full spectrum of the technologies accumulated within Sony, Sony DADC is able to provide customers with total supply chain solutions and content delivery to the global market place in a quick, cost-effective, and secure manner. Either physically or electronically, Sony DADC delivers environmentally friendly and quality conscious services to its customers.

1980 Sony and Philips developed Compact Disc Digital Audio System
1982 Sony manufactured the world's first music CD in Shizuoka, Japan
1983 Sony DADC US Inc. was established in Terre Haute, Indiana, U.S.
1986 Sony DADC Austria AG was established in Salzburg, Austria
1993 Sony Disc Technology Inc. was established to enhance optical disc technologies
1994 Sony started to manufacture CD for PlayStation®
1997 Sony started to manufacture DVD
2000 DigitalWorks was established in Sony DADC Austria AG
2004 Sony started to manufacture UMD
2005 Sony Disc Technology Inc. was reorganized to Sony Disc & Digital Solutions Inc.
2006 Sony started to manufacture Blu-ray Disc (BD)
